Our day at Hidden River Festival

Hidden River Festival Roundup

Music Audio Stories at the Hidden River Festival

Last weekend, we took part in the Hidden River Festival 2019! Back for its seventh year, the festival starts outside the Redmond Community Centre and continues along the New River Path to the Woodberry Wetlands.

The event is attended by hundreds of Woodberry Down residents and visitors from other areas of London, bringing the total attendance to over 2,000 people each year! Volunteers from the community are involved in creating a great day of community fun, local food, music, comedy, stalls, and more.

We were super excited to be part of such a lovely festival with a great ethos based on community spirit, nature preserve, and family fun.

Our Music Audio Stories stall was in the Family Finches area which had other children's entertainment such as mask making, video games, a circus skill workshop, face painting, and other fun things.

We used our new Roller Banner and had a lovely big space to set up our merchandise. Our new CDs were a hit with the children! In fact, one excited little boy ran over to our table, grabbed a CD and ran off with it! ???? The CD reappeared a moment later when his slightly embarrassed father brought it back to us, before purchasing one of our Storytime Packages!

Nestled beside the East and West Reservoirs at Woodberry Down, the New River creates a stunning backdrop for the Hidden River Festival. Built over 400 years ago, the New River was an engineering feat of its time. Dug by hand, it is still in use today, bringing Londoners fresh drinking water from springs in Hertfordshire. As well as enjoying the festival, visitors can walk along New River thanks to the New River Path which provides a unique green oasis in this area. It's teeming with wildlife and beautiful vistas for the public to enjoy! Children loved the wind along landscaped paths and the modern kids’ playground. There is so much in the area to explore!

At lunchtime, I took a quick break to wander down the New River Path to where the food stalls were. I was amazed at the wonderful selection of stalls! So much variety with something for everyone to enjoy! Music was playing from the Stage Bus as I headed towards the "Foodie Foxes". I discovered lots of delicious cuisines to suit all dietary requirements and ordered two tasty looking halloumi wraps! 😊

I hosted my Storytime for the children inside the Redmond Community Centre! Whilst the parents sat on the comfortable sofas and chairs in the community area, I entertained the children with 'Billy Joins the Circus'! It was the perfect choice of story seeing as there was a circus-themed workshop in the Family Finches area. Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos with the children as Adie had to stay with our stall. However, the children greatly enjoyed the activities we did and took their drawings home with them. ????

The atmosphere at the Hidden River Festival was brilliant! It was made even more special by the beautiful sunny weather we had all day long. Everyone looked like they were having a great time and Adie and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I would highly recommend attending this event next year if you missed it! "If you fancy a family-focused day with an intimate, community vibe surrounded by nature, this is the festival for you".

Thank you to Charlotte and all of the volunteers for running such a lovely event!

Keep an eye on our social media pages for more photos!
