Easter Egg Hunt

WOW! What an amazing Easter Library Tour 2019!

Music Audio Stories - Easter Library Tour 2019 - Photos of London Libraries

Over the last two weeks, I have visited seven beautiful libraries across London, taught and entertained 182 children ranging from babies and toddlers right up to 9-year-olds, collected 44 Easter egg drawings created by the children, sold Storytime Packages, not only hit my Subscriber target goal but exceeded it and received wonderful comments and feedback from parents about my Easter Storytime! I am delighted and over the moon. What a fantastic success it was!

A week before this tour began, I managed to do a test run of my Easter Storytime at nursery and the children loved it! Not only did they love the story and the activities we did together but they also found two of the character voices very funny indeed! ????

There were a few things I had to think carefully about when putting this Storytime together! One of them was the issue of chocolate eggs! At Music Audio Stories, we want to promote healthy living and we know a lot of libraries do as well. They are encouraging families to be more healthy with events such as their 'Sugar Swaps'. Eggs are a big part of Easter. However, I didn't want to turn up at libraries and hand out chocolates, plus it's also a safety issue with allergies etc, so, I found 50 colourful prop eggs I could use instead!

I assembled my eggs, found a cute basket, knew I had a great lesson plan and I was ready for my Easter Library Tour 2019!

My tour began on Monday 8th April at Swiss Cottage Library. I had a fantastic group of 42 children who took part in my Easter activities and it was brilliant! My event was announced over a tannoy at the library which was a pretty cool moment. My Storytime Packages sold like hot potatoes and lots of parents signed my Mailing List. Woohoo!

My first visit to Maida Vale Library was next, and was quite a test for me, as I had another large group of children. However this time, I had to cater to a larger age range. From babies and toddlers right up to 8 and 9-year-olds! Pretty tricky for me! I have had this situation many times at libraries so it's no surprise but each story needs to be altered so I can make my session interesting, engaging and fun for all of the children in the group.

On this tour, every Storytime was slightly different depending on the space I had in the library, the number of children and families at the library, and the age range! It was a challenge, I had to think on my toes but somehow I managed to make it work every time! 😊

I ended my first week at West Hampstead Library. I had a lovely little group of toddlers who enjoyed my activities, especially the "eggs in the basket" bit during the drama section. 😆 It was a great way to end a wonderful week. The first leg of my Easter Library Tour had gone extremely well and I hoped the second week didn't go too quickly, as I was having so much fun with the kids, I didn't want it to end!

The second leg of my tour kicked off at Kentish Town Library on Monday 15th April with another lovely little group. Children had created Easter artwork which was displayed on the walls of the library. It was the perfect setting for my Storytime! I referred to the egg designs hanging on the walls when we talked about Easter and my story at the start of my session.

My next two Storytimes would be in the heart of busy London city!

Shoe Lane Library! Surrounded by tall London business buildings, it seems unlikely that this library would have any sort of community feel to it whatsoever. However, this library has such a lovely atmosphere, all the families and children know each other and everyone is so friendly. I had a wonderful group of 41 children taking part in my story and activities and they loved my colourful eggs! There was excitement in the library and everyone was enjoying themselves. It was pure joy! ✨

⭐️This has got to be one of my biggest Story Time achievements!⭐️

Storytime with Anna Christina at the Barbican Centre!

I have come so far with my Storytime and achieved so much. It has been quite a journey for me. To be in a position now to visit places as big as London's Barbican Centre, truly makes me feel so very proud! ????

The Barbican Children's Library was fantastic! Once again, a brilliant group of families all joined in with singing and dancing all around the library with our colourful eggs during our Easter Egg Hunt song. It was delightful!

I was thrilled to see some families, who had taken part at Shoe Lane Library, had returned for more Easter fun! One little girl called Gabriella amazed me by choosing the same colour and creating almost the same drawing as she had done the day before! I only had one felt tip pen which was this colour! She picked it twice from a box of 40 colours!

All the libraries help to promote my events. I felt really happy when I saw I was featured in the Barbican Centre's April program guide. So brilliant!

My final Easter Storytime was at Chelsea Library. It was the youngest group of children I had over my two-week Easter Library Tour. I was glad the toddlers enjoyed my session and I managed to collect a few more egg drawings, bringing my total egg count to a nice solid even number of 44 eggs!

I've had so many different types of eggs and designs. Everything from chocolate to chicks inside and chicks making cracks on the shells as they prepared to hatch. I've had dragon eggs and monsters inside eggs and eggs with legs!

I began my Easter Library Tour with 50 prop eggs and amazingly I only lost two along the way! So sweet that all the children gave me back my eggs, even though they probably wanted to take them home with them! Aww, bless them!

BIG thank you to all of the wonderful London Libraries for being part of my Easter Library Tour 2019 and well done to all the children who took part.

See you all soon again,

💚 Anna Christina
